The Hermitage. This is the front of the Winter Palace (1732), also known as the Hermitage. It is now one of the largest art museums in the world (3 million pieces in the collection - not all on display). The interiors were beyond description - beautiful marbles, with gold inlays, amazing workmanship. Tzar Nicolas II (who was overthrown by the Soviets in 1917) was the third richest man who ever lived in the history of the world (according to Forbes magazine).
